Paramount’s A Quiet Place Part II took the top spot at the weekend box office as studios look to restart the theatrical movie business. Films have been trickling into theatres dor a few weeks but the Memorial Day weekend is the official start to the summer season.
A Quiet Place Part II opened with an estimated $48.3 million over the three day weekend. Including Thursday previews the thrilling sequel took in $58.5 million with an additional $20.7 internationally.
Disney’s Cruella opened in second place with an estimated $21.3 million. The film also opened as a premium streaming film in Disney+ with a $30 price tag for early access.
Rounding out the top five was Spiral from Lionsgate with $2.2 million in its third weekend, United Artist’s Wrath of Man with $2.1 million in week four, and Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon with $1.9 million. The film has been in theatres for 13 weeks and was also made available on Disney+.

Next weekend sees the release of Spirit Untamed from Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation. Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema’s The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It also hits theatres.
