Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation’s Abominable took top spot at the domestic weekend box office with an estimated $20.9 million. The film also opened internationally with another $10.2 million. The opening is on the low end for DreamWorks Animation films and is the lowest opening since 2013’s Turbo which opened with $21 million. That film went on to gross $83 million domestically and $282 million worldwide.
Last week’s number one film Downton Abbey dropped to the second spot with another $14.5 million. The film has made $58.5 million in two weeks and including international cumes has topped $107 million worldwide so far.
Last week’s number five film jumped up two spots to land in the third place spot. STX Entertainment’s Hustlers brought in another $11.5 million over the weekend. It: Chapter 2 took in another $10.4 million in fourth place while Fox’s sci-fi film Ad Astra took in another $10.1 million to finish in fifth place.

This Friday will see just one wide release with the release of the anticipated film Joker from Warner Bros. Next weekend will see the release of the Ang Lee film Gemini Man from Paramount.
