Much to nobody’s surprise the highly anticipated Avengers Endgame took the top spot at the weekend box office with a record breaking $357.1 million domestically. Added to that was another exceptional opening in international markets bringing the film’s three day worldwide take to an astounding $1.2 billion. The film broke several records including worldwide openings, opening day gross, single day gross. As expected it had the best single day Friday, Saturday, and Sunday grosses and also had the widest ever release.
Landing in second spot was a boosted Captain Marvel which jumped two spots. The film added another $8.3 million to Disney’s coffers. The film now has $1.1 billion worldwide since releasing on March 8th.
Dropping to third spot was Warner Bros.’ The Curse of La Llorona with $8.0 million, followed by 20th Century Fox’s Breakthrough with $6.8 million and Warner Bros.’ Shazam! with $5.9 million in fifth place.

Next weekend sees the release of several new films Sony / Screen Gems will open the thriller The Intruder, Lionsgate/Summit will open the comedy Long Shot, and STX Entertainment will bring the animated feature Ugly Dolls to theatres.
