Boo 2! Madea scares up top spot at the Weekend Box Office | October 20-22, 2017

Lionsgate’s Tyler Perry’s Boo 2! A Madea Halloween made a big splash at the weekend box office while Warner Bros’ disaster flick Geostorm got off to a start in line with its premise.

Tyler Perry’s Boo 2! A Madea Halloween debuted at the top spot over the weekend with an estimated $21.6 million over the weekend. The opening is less than the original film in 2016 but has already nearly made back its production budget.

The same can’t be said for Geostorm however as the film took in an estimated $13.3 million in the first three days on a reported production budget of $120 million. Including international receipts the film has taken in $62.9 million but the number is definitely below expectations.

The other new release Only the Brave from Sony debuted in the #5 spot with $6.0 million. Last week’s top two films Happy Death Day and Blade Runner 2049 took the third and fourth spots with $9.4 million and $7.1 million respectively. Blade Runner 2049 has taken in just shy of $200 million worldwide so far.

Next weekend will see the sharp looking crime comedy Suburbicon from Paramount Pictures debut as well as horror film Jigsaw from Lionsgate.
