Captain Marvel soars to the top of the Weekend Box Office

Disney and Marvel’s latest superhero film Captain Marvel soared to the top of the weekend box office with an estimated domestic cume of $153.0 million in its opening weekend. Including international box office numbers the film has already taken in an estimated $455 million worldwide.

Last week’s top four films took second through five over the weekend.

Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World dropped to second place with another $14.9 million. The film has passed the $100 million mark with an estimated domestic box office of $119.6 million. That was followed up with Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral from LionsGate with another $12.1 million.

Warner Bros.’ The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part held on to fourth place with another $3.8 million while 20th Century Fox’s Alita: Battle Angel dropped to fifth place with another $3.2 million.

Next week sees the animated feature from Paramount Animation and Nickelodoen Movies Wonder Park arrive in theatres. Focus Features will also release the sci-fi film Captive State and LionsGate has the romance Five Feet Apart set for release.
