Don’t Breathe tops at the Weekend Box Office | August 26-28, 2016

After holding strong at the top spot for several weeks, Suicide Squad from Warner Bros finished the weekend at the #2 spot at the box office. The film took in another $12.1 million over the weekend. The Squad has now generated $282 million domestically so far.

Newcomer Don’t Breathe won the weekend with an estimated $26.1 million. The horror thriller from Screen Gems had a small $9.9 million budget, making the film an instant hit for Sony.

The three and four spots at the box office were repeats from last weekend. Kubo and the Two Strings from Focus Features moved up from fourth to third with $7.9 million. Sony’s Sausage Party fell from second to fourth place with an estimated $7.6 million.

Lionsgate and Summit’s action flick Mechanic: Resurrection rounded out the top five at the box office with $7.5 million.
