Downton Abbey tops the Box Office

Focus Features’ theatrical continuation of Downton Abbey climbed to the top of the social ladder and the domestic box office over the weekend as the film took in $31.0 million and top spot. The film also opened internationally adding another $30.8 million.

Opening in second spot was 20th Century Fox’s sci-fi thriller Ad Astra. The pic opened with an estimated $19.2 million at the domestic box office while it also added another $26 million internationally for a total cume of $45.2 million.

Third place saw another new release with Rambo: Last Blood opening with $19.0 million. The opening is slightly ahead of the last film in the franchise way back in 2008. That film opened with $18.2 million and went on to gross $113 million worldwide.

Rounding out the top five films was Warner Bros. / New Line Cinema’s It: Chapter 2 with another $17.2 million followed by STX Entertainment’s Hustlers with $17.0 million.

Next weekend will see the release of Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation’s animated feature Abominable¬†as well as the horror thriller The Curse of Buckout Road from Vertical Entertainment.
