Dumbo flys to a low open but wins the Weekend Box Office

Disney’s live action remake of Dumbo soared to the top of the domestic weekend box office but haf a soft opening. Unlike other real life remakes, Dumbo opened to a low $45 million. By comparison 2017’s Beauty and the Beast remake opened to $175 million. The film did pick up an additional $71 million though internationally.

In its second weekend thriller Us scooped up another $33.6 million domestically for a two week total of $128 million while Marvel’s Captain Marvel took in another $25 million. The latest superhero flick has generated $353 million domestically and a total worldwide cume of $990 million.

In fourth place was LionsGate’s Five Feet Apart with $6.3 million while the anti-abortion film Unplanned from Pure Flix opened in fifth place with an estimated $6.1 million.

Next weekend will see the release of the horror remake Pet Sematary from Paramount while Warner Bros. and DC will open the superhero film Shazam! There is a local connection to Shazam! with a number of scenes that were shot in Hamilton.
