Universal’s Fate of the Furious shows no signs of slowing down as the film once again took top spot at the weekend box office. The latest film in the franchise took in another $19.4 million at the box office and has now eclipsed $1 billion at the worldwide box office. That success is largely due to international cumes, with the film taking in $192.7 million domestically while another $867 internationally.
Taking in the second spot at the box office was How to be a Latin Lover from Pantelion with $12.0 million. Pantelion is a joint venture between Televisa and Lionsgate whose goal is to bring wider theatrical distribution of movies aimed at Latino audiences in the United States. Great India Films’ Baahubali 2: The Conclusion landed in third spot with an estimated $10.1 million.
The STX Entertainment thriller The Circle starring Emma Watson and Tom Hanks opened in fourth spot with an estimated $9.3 million while Dreamworks Animation’s The Boss Baby rounded out the top five with another $9.1 million.
Next weekend’s big release sees the Disney / Marvel release of the highly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The film is expected to take the top spot at the box office.
