Good Boys rise to the top of the Weekend Box Office

The comedy Good Boys from Universal Pictures topped the weekend box office with an estimated $21.4 million. The film was one of two films from Universal in the top five with Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw dropping from the top spot to #2 over the weekend. The spin-off film took in another $14.2 million in its third weekend of release giving the film a total cume of $133 million domestically. Including international receipts the film has totaled $438 million worldwide so far.

Landing in third spot was the third place film last weekend, The Lion King. The Disney “live-action” remake earned another $12.3 million over the weekend. The film has totalled $496.5 million domestically since its release last month and has taken in another $940 million in the rest of the world. The Lion King is the second higest grossing film of 2019 behind Avengers: Endgame.

The Angry Birds Movie 2 from Sony opened in fourth place with $10.3 million. The opening is down from the original film which hat a $38 million opening. The film also opened in several international markets and took in $29.3 internationally.

Rounding out the top give was Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark which dropped from #2 to #5 with another $10.0 million. The film has earned just over $40 million in two weeks.

Coming out next weekend will see the action sequel Angel has Fallen hit theatres. Before that the horror thriller Ready or Not from Fox Searchlight will be released on Wednesday.
