Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World once again took the top spot at the weekend box office with another estimated $30 million domestically. In two weeks of release the animated sequel has earned approximately $97.7 million domestically and $375 million worldwide.
Debuting in the #2 spot was LionsGate’s Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral. The swan song for Madea slid into the second spot with an estimated $27.0 million. The opening is the fourth best opening weekend out of the nine Madea films and the highest opening weekend since 2016’s Boo! A Madea Halloween.
Last week’s second and third place films slid to third and fourth place respectively. 20th Century Fox’s Alita: Battle Angel landed in the third spot with another $7.0 million while Warner Bros. animated feature The Lego Movie 2 took in another $6.6 million for fourth place.
Rounding out the top five was the Academy Award winner for best picture Green Book from Universal Pictures. The film jumped up to fifth place with $4.7 million.

Next weekend’s big release will see the highly anticipated Marvel Studios film Captain Marvel arrive in theatres. It’s the only wide release next weekend with other studios giving the superhero flick a wide berth.
