Jumanji overtakes Star Wars atop the Weekend Box Office | January 5-7, 2017

In its third week Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has surpassed Star Wars: The Last Jedi to top the box office over the weekend. The re-imagining / remake took in an estimated $36 million. In the three weeks since release the film has generated $244 million domestically. Including international receipts the film has earned an estimated $519 million worldwide.

New release and sequel Insidious: The Last Key debuted in the second spot with an estimated $29.3 million. The film, which is the fourth in the series, had the second highest opening in the series behind the second film in the franchise.

Finally dropping out of the top spot is the latest Star Wars film Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The film, which was panned by a lot of fans, took in another $23.5 million over the weekend. The film has generated an estimated $572 million domestically.

Rounding out the top five were The Greatest Showman from 20th Century Fox with an estimated $13.8 million and Pitch Perfect 3 from Universal with $10.2 million.
