Sony’s Jumanji sequel / reboot took the top spot at the weekend box office again with another $20.0 million over the weekend. The film has already earned an estimated $316.9 million domestically and another $450 million in the rest of the word. With a total budged of $90 million and a global haul of $767.8 million worldwide, there’s little doubt that a sequel could be headed our way.
Debuting at the #2 spot at the box office is Warner Bros.’ post 9-11 film 12 Strong. The film took in an estimated $16.5 million. That’s right in line with the similar themed 2016 film 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi from Paramount Pictures and Michael Bay, which opened with a similar $16.2 million on the same weekend two years ago.
STX Entertainment’s Den of Thieves opened its theatrical run with an estimated $15.3 million which was good enough for third spot. Rounding out the top five was The Post with $12.2 million and The Greatest Showman with $11.0 million. Both films are from 20th Century Fox.
Next weekend sees the third film in the Maze Runner series, Maze Runner: The Death Cure, release in theatres. The film is distributed by 20th Century Fox.
