Lonely Island Netflix comedy special is unexpected but so good

I’ve been a fan of Andy Samberg since I saw him in the movie Hot Rod. That was my introduction to the hilarious actor. I never really saw him on SNL but have also become a huge fan of his television comedy series Brooklyn 99. That series will have its sixth season debut on Netflix on May 31st.

But just before that happens The Lonely Island Presents: The Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience debuted on the streaming service. A Netflix comedy special, it was unexpected, weird, funny, and exactly what I expect from Andy Samberg.

My second introduction to Samberg came from finding his comedy rap albums. I’m on a Boat is still one of my favourite songs and I’ve listened to it on repeat so many times. Samberg also expanded his musical comedy with the movie Pop star a few years ago. This series takes some of the more fun moments, removes a lot of the story elements, and lets the songs shine. It’s like making a mini movie for an entire album.

The special is irreverent and silly but so much fun. Also add to that that there are a dozen small cameos from actors who havr appeared on Brooklyn 99 and there are plenty of Easter eggs to look out for.

The special is now streaming on Netflix and you can also find the songs out on Spotify now.
