Onward goes on to take top spot at the Weekend Box Office

Disney and Pixar’s latest animated offering Onward went on to win the domestic weekend box office with an estimated $40.0 million. The film also opened in several international markets and picked up an additional $28 million for a $68 million worldwide opening weekend. Last weekend’s top film The Invisible Man from Universal Pictures dropped to second place with another $15.1 million while Warner Bros.’ The  Way Back opened with $8.5 million.

Paramount and Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog dropped to fourth place in week four with another $8.0 million. The video game adaptation has now earned $140.8 million domestically and has a worldwide cume of $295 million since release.

Rounding out the top five was The Call of the Wild from 20th Century Studios (Disney). The film picked up another $7.0 million and landed in fifth place.

Coming up next weekend will see wide releases for I Still Believe from Lionsgate, Sony’s Bloodshot, as well as the release of the delayed The Hunt from Universal Pictures.
