Disney and Pixar’s latest animated offering Onward went on to win the domestic weekend box office with an estimated $40.0 million. The film also opened in several international markets and picked up an additional $28 million for a $68 million worldwide opening weekend. Last weekend’s top film The Invisible Man from Universal Pictures dropped to second place with another $15.1 million while Warner Bros.’ The Way Back opened with $8.5 million.
Paramount and Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog dropped to fourth place in week four with another $8.0 million. The video game adaptation has now earned $140.8 million domestically and has a worldwide cume of $295 million since release.
Rounding out the top five was The Call of the Wild from 20th Century Studios (Disney). The film picked up another $7.0 million and landed in fifth place.
