Warner Bros. latest superhero film in the DC Universe Shazam! took the top spot at the weekend box office with an estimated $53.5 million over the weekend. The film also opened in international markets with an estimated $102 million to make the opening weekend worldwide cume $158.8 million.
Opening in second place was Paramount’s thriller remake Stephen King’s Pet Semetary. The remake took in an estimated $25.1 million.
Rounding out the top five were last weekend’s top three films. Disney’s Dumbo landed at third spot with $18.2 million, Universal’s Us earned another $13.8 million, and finally Disney and Marvel’s Captain Marvel took in another $12.7 million.

Next weekend sees another remake with LionsGate’s Hellboy hitting theatres. Universal has the comedy Little opening wide and United Artists has the animated Missing Link opening.
