Disney’s release of Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker held on to top spot at the weekend box office for the second straight week as the sequel raked in anothar $72 million domestically. Including international cumes the film has totaled $704.3 million worldwide in two weeks.
Coming in at second and fourth place respectively was Sony’s Jumanji: The Next Level and Disney’s Frozen II. Earnings for the two films actually went up week over week with Jumani seeing a 33.2% increase over last week to earn $35.3 million over the weekend. Frozen II was up 27.1% over last weekend and toko in another $16.5 million. Jumanji now has $175.4 million domestically in three weeks while Frozen II has taken in $421 million stateside in six weeks of release.
Newcomer Little Women from Sony opened with $16.5 million and third place over the weekend. The film, which opened in the middle of last week, has generated $29 million since opening.
20th Century Fox’s animated feature Spies in Disguise took fifth place over the weekend with $13.2 million and a total of $22 million since its Christmas Day release last week.
