‘The New Mutants’ tops the Weekend Box Office

The box office continues to begin the slow reopen with the limited release of 20th Century Studios’ and Marvel’s The New Mutants. The film opened on 2,412 screens and took in an estimated $7.9 million. Coming in second place was Solstice’s Unhinged which took in $2.6 million on 1,823 screens.

Landing in third place was Paramount and Nickelodoen’s The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run. The film, which is not playing in the United States, took in an estimated $604,000 on 314 screens in Canada. The film will make an eventual VOD release stateside on CBS All Access in 2021 and on Netflix in some international territories.

Rounding out the top five was Searchlight Pictures’ The Personal History of David Copperfield which debuted on 1,360 screens with an estimated $520,000 while Words on Bathroom Walls from Roadside Attractions took in another $430,000 in its second week of release.

Friday will see the limited American release of Tenet from Warner Bros. The film has already opened internationally and taken in an estimated $53 million dollars so far. On the streaming side, Netflix will debut the romantic comedy Love, Guarenteed on Thursday.
