What to do this weekend? Free Comic Book day

The annual Free Comic Book Day takes place this Saturday, May 4th. Free Comic Book Day is an annual event founded on the belief that for every person out there, there’s a comic book they’ll love.

Every year, on the first Saturday in May, the industry comes together to give away free comics and encourage fans, both old and new, to flock to the best place in the comic book community: local comic shops.

Major publishers such as DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Dark Horse Comics, IDW Publishing, BOOM! Studios, Dynamite Entertainment, and Image Comics put out free comics for fans to enjoy at the more than 2,300 local comic shops that participate in Free Comic Book Day. If you’re excited by comics or have your interest peaked from the blockbuster movies like Avengers Endgame, there’s no better time to check out your local comic book shop and even pick up a free comic or two.

There is a free comic based on the drama Riverdale, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the hit Netflix series Stranger Things, and of course The Avengers. You’ll also find a full-colour, manga-style graphic novel in the world of Disney Decendants, Pokémon I Choose You, as well as some cool looking independents including Punchline from Antarctic Press and Lady mechanika from Benitez Productions.

Four comic shops in Hamilton are participating in Free Comic Book Day.
