Nationals Lose Second Game in Boston

The Hamilton Nationals dropped their second straight game of the season as they are doubled up by the Boston Cannons 19-8.

The Nationals were looking for a different end result in the evening’s game. The last time these two teams met was in the 2011 MLL Championship game last year. The Cannons came away with a slim victory in the final game of last season. Hamilton looked to exact some revenge in the new season.

The teams kept it close in the first half of the game. Kevin Crowley and Rhys Duch scored goals for Hamilton at 6:03 and 8:31 of the first quarter respectively. The Cannons and Nationals went back and forth with goals in the early going with Jeremy Thompson scoring and Crowley adding another pair. By the end of the half Boston had the edge 8-5.

The Nationals kept pace with the Cannons throughout the third quarter but it was the fourth that was the team’s undoing. Boston unleashed in the fourth quarter, outscoring Hamilton 6-1 to finish out the game 18-9.

Brodie Merrill, Dan Deckelbaum, Jeremy Thompson and Adam Jones scored for Hamilton in the second half. Jeff Zywicki came away with two assists.

Scott Rodgers and Brett Queener split time in goal for Hamilton. Queener allowed ten goals during the came and was credited in the loss.

Hamilton drops to 0-2 on the season so far.

The Nationals welcome the Chesapeake Bayhawks to Ron Joyce Stadium for their home opener this Friday morning at 11am. Tickets are available from the box office on game day or by calling 905.768.2225.
