New Birge Pool officially opens on Thursday

It’s been a long two summers of construction but Birge Pool has finally reopened. Construction on the new pool started in the spring of 2015 when the old pool was torn up to make way for the new pool. The new Birge Pool, which had a soft launch last week, is much larger and has more amenities than the old aging pool. The new pool is a fully accessible pool facility, which features a beach walk in, pool spray features, and new change rooms.

The official opening for Birge Pool will begin at 12 noon on Thursday, August 25th with a ribbon cutting ceremony and words of welcome from Ward 3 Councillor Matthew Green. Following the official opening, residents are welcome to enjoy a free swim. There will also be a free BBQ beginning at 11:30 am and free onsite Supie beginning at 1 pm.

“I want to acknowledge the patience and understanding of neighbours in our community throughout the delays in the construction process,” Councillor Green said in a release. “We now have a great pool at Birge Park that will provide even better recreational opportunities for families in our neighbourhood.”
