Update: Arrest Made in Barton Street Shooting

Shortly before 11pm on Friday February 22nd, 2019 Hamilton Police were dispatched to the area of 394 Barton Street East for a shooting just occurred.

One 23-year-old male was located by police near the corner of Smith and Barton Street. He was suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. He was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. This male has now been identified as Noah HOPE. HOPE is an Ottawa area resident.

A 26-year-old male victim was located in a nearby residence, he had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to hospital, he was listed in critical but stable condition. His injuries have now been determined to be non-life-threatening.

The Hamilton Police Major Crime Unit and the Make Safe Shooting Task force are actively investigating this matter.

The investigation has revealed that Noah HOPE and another male attended a residence in the area of 394 Barton Street East. The victim arrived a short time later and also went into the residence. Noah HOPE and the other male began to assault the victim in the process of robbing him. The male who was with Noah HOPE produced a handgun and shot the victim through the chest. This bullet went through the victim and into the leg of Noah HOPE.

The unknown male and Noah HOPE then left the residence.

Noah HOPE has been charged with Robbery and Fail to Comply with Recognizance. He has been remanded into custody.

Investigators are attempting to identify the outstanding suspect who is described as male black, 25-30 years of age, average build (around 180 lbs), 5’10 – 5’11.

Investigators have determined that this was a targeted shooting. It is unknown whether the suspects and the victim knew each other.
