East leg of Sherman Access closed beginning Monday

Travelling up and down the escarpment in Hamilton will get a little more difficult beginning on Monday.

To safely complete construction activities, the City of Hamilton will be closing sections of the Sherman Access beginning Monday.

The east leg of the Sherman Access, which is the stretch between the Sherman Cut and the Kenilworth Access, will be closed beginning this Monday, July 23rd at 6:00am. Crews will be installing drapery mesh to protect against rock falls. The City is anticipating that the east leg of the Sherman Access will re-open on August 31st.

The west leg of the Sherman Access, which runs between the Sherman Cut and Charleton Road, will be closed beginning August 7th at 6:00am. This closure is taking place to allow crews to complete reconstruction work that began in summer 2017. The City hopes to re-open the west leg of the access on September 21st.

Because the closures of the two halves of the Sherman Access overlap, with both east and west portions closed between August 7th and August 31st, the Sherman Cut will also be closed during this time. There will be no access to the Sherman Cut while both the east and west legs of the access are closed. The Sherman Cut will close on August 7th, 2018 and will reopen on August 31st.
