Hamilton Police are investigating after a male truck driver struck a traffic pole causing building damage.
On Friday, August 31, 2018, a 54-year-old truck driver was travelling eastbound on Main Street E when he struck a traffic control pole, damaging a building at Main and James in Hamilton. After striking the pole, the truck continued and damaged an awning. City Building Inspectors attended the scene and determined the building to be structurally safe. Hamilton Fire Department and the Hazardous Material team were also on scene to clean up a fuel spill.
Fortunately, no one was injured but Main Street was closed for several hours as emergency crews cleaned up the scene. The driver was transported to hospital in stable condition. Hamilton Police are still investigating the cause of the accident, but alcohol has been ruled out as a factor.

Fluke Transport Truck collides with pole on north side of Main just before James, bounces back onto road, crosses over James and crashes into building, then comes to a stop destroying a bus waiting area. Shortly after the 9:30pm buses picked people up. No pedestrians hit. #HamOnt pic.twitter.com/cDGGpSYvc9
