The City of Hamilton announced today that the Hamilton Street Railway (HSR), the transit division of the City of Hamilton, will be announcing an “exciting new project” with researchers at McMaster University’s Faculty of Engineering and the McMaster Institute for Transportation & Logistics.
Representatives from HSR and the City of Hamilton, McMaster University, Faculty of Engineering, and from the McMaster Institute for Transportation & Logistics will be in attendance.
While there aren’t any details about the contents of the announcement, it’s possible that the McMaster Institute for Transportation & Logistics could be preparing to work with the City in studying the future integration of the HSR with the planned LRT.
MITL has worked with the City of Hamilton on several reports in recent years, including Hamilton’s Rapid Transit Future: The Role of Light Rail Transit in 2011 and The North American Light Rail Experience: Insights for Hamilton in 2012. The non-profit institute also created The Development of a Transportation Demand Management Plan for McMaster University in 2016.
The announcement will take place on Monday, March 26th at 12:30 pm in the lobby of the John Hodgins Engineering Building at McMaster University.
