Avalanche downed by Guelph in preseason game at home

They won’t face them at all in the regular season but the Avalanche will have two more chances in the preseason to right the ship and fight though the Hurricanes. Ancaster hosted their first preseason game on Tuesday night as the Avalanche were bested by the visiting Guelph Hurricanes 5-1.

The final score mirrors the team’s opening contest in the preseason on Sunday where the Avs were also shut down by Brampton. That game also ended in a 5-1 loss for the Ancaster men. But that’s why this is called the preseason. This the time for the team to get their legs and find common footing.

Tyler Heisey scored the lone marker for the Avalanche in the second period, a power play goal at 8:53 of the period. The goal came after Guelph’s Lucas Pozzebon was given two minutes for cross checking just a minute earlier. Cooper Johnson and Malek Powell assisted on the play.

Next up the Avalanche will travel to the Sportsworld Twin Pad in Kitchener on Thursday night at 6:15 PM before returning home to the Morgan Firestone Arena on Saturday night at 7:30 PM to host the Kitchener Dutchmen.
