Matt Baumann scored the overtime winner for the Hamilton Kilty B’s as they rebounded a third period deficit. The win was a special home game from Valley Park Arena, which the franchise used to call home when they were the Stoney Creek Warriors.
After no scoring in the first period, Eli Rivers got the B’s on the board early into the second period. With Hamilton on the power play, Rivers found the back of the net 34 seconds into the middle stanza. The one goal lead would last until just before the midway mark of the period when Brendan Krawczyk evened the score for Buffalo.
Buffalo would then take a two goal lead with the Regal’s scoring back to back goals in the first half of the third period. Hunter Litman and Brendan Krawczyk scored at 2:18 and 9:30 respectively to give Buffalo a 3-1 lead. The lead wouldn’t last though as the Kilty B’s began a resurrgance.
Eli Rivers netted his second goal of the game at 13:14 of the third period, his seventh since joining the team. With the clock ticking towards the end of regulation, Buffalo’s Russ Riggio took a charging penalty and put Hamilton on the power play. Nolan Slachetka took advantage of the power play and scored the game tying goal at 17:27 of the period, forcing overtime.
Penalty troubles would continue to plague the Regals as Cameron Clark was slapped with a slashing penalty less than two minutes into overtime, which proved to be the downfall of Buffalo. Matt Baumann took full advantage and picked up a power play goal at 3:28 of overtime for the win.
Justin Easter stopped 30 of 33 shots in goal for the Kilty B’s.
The win bumps up Hamilton’s record to 22-13-2-1 and inches the team closer to the second place Niagara Falls Canucks and St. Catharines Falcons. Next up the Kilty B’s will visit the Thorold Blackhawks on Thursday night. Game time is set for 7:07pm.
