Bengals behind early in OJBLL playoffs; host game two Monday

The Hamilton Bengals started the first round of the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League playoffs in Elora on Thursday night looking to take an early lead in the five game series. While the game was closely fought the Bengals came out on the short end and dropped game one 7-5 to the Mohawks.

The opening period was a low scoring affar with only a pair of goals scored between the two teams. Sam English opened the scoring for the Bengals with a goal at 3:14 of the first period. Elora’s Cody Stannard evened the score just a few minutes later at 5:56.

It was the second period which was the deciding factor in the game. While Hamilton added a pair of goals thanks to Luke Robinson and Peter Masters early in the period, Elora found the back of the net twice as many times to take a 5-3 lead into the third period.

Trevor Barrett brought the Bengals within a goal midway thru the third period but Hamilton would be unable to tie the game once again with Elora adding another pair of goals shortly after. Yvon Bolduc found the back of the net in the dying minutes with an extra attacker on the floor but ultimately the Bengals would drop game one 7-5.

Dylan Sprentz made 36 saves on 43 shots in goal for Hamilton in net.

Monday night the Bengals will return home to the Dave Andreychuck Mountain Arena to host game two of the best-of-five playoff series. Game time is set for 8:00 PM. The game will also be broadcast live on Cable 14.
