Bengals hit a wall in Elora

After two strong performances at home last week the Bengals entered the Elora Community Centre looking for their third win in a row. The Mohawks proved too much on Sunday as the Bengals were defeated in Elora by a score of 9-3.

The first twenty minutes it was anyone’s game as the two teams played an evenly matched period. Jordan Gillis got the Bengals on the board early with a goal less than two minutes into the game. After Elora’s Ryan Buller scored back to back goals to give the Mohawks the lead, Hamilton’s Josh Bryers netted his second goal of the season at 8:42 of the game.

The teams went to intermission tied 2-2 but the second period would be where the Mohawk’s opened up the game.

The second period was all Elora with the Mohawks scoring six unanswered goals thru the middle frame. After then adding a seventh straight goal early in the third period, Hamilton finally broke onto the scoresheet again Tanner Brenneke netted a powerplay marker at 10:27 of the third.

That would be as close as the Bengals would come though as the Mohawks held on for the 9-3 victory.

Ty Argent, Jordan Gillis, Michael Mayes, and Josh Bryers had assist for the Bengals. Dylan Sprentz made 22 saves on 31 shots in goal for Hamilton.

The Bengals will have three days off before returning home on Thursday night to host the St. Catharines Spartans. Game time is set for 8:00 PM from Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena.
