Sure it’s still early in the season but there’s something to be said about being undefeated, and breaking in their new temporary diggs at Olympic Arena was a good start to the season. The Dundas Blues kicked off their season from Olmypic Arena, the club’s temporary home while J.L. Grightmire is renovated over the summer. With the mighty Peach Kings of Grimsby in town the Blues held their own and bested the visiting club 4-2.
Goaltender Colin Bilik was the hero of the night for Dundas as the netminder turned away an impressive 38 of 40 shots on goal thru the night. That shot count was almost double what the Blues’ offense sent the other way with 22 shots testing Grimsby’s Jamie Ferguson between the pipes.
Dundas’ Jodie Morgan opened the scoring for the season with his first goal in a Blues’ jersey at the 4:20 mark of the first period. That one goal lead would quickly evaporate as the Peach Kings retaliated with the next possession just twenty seconds later to even the score and one a piece.
The second period would be where the Blues would shine and take the lead.
The Blues scored three goals in succession over the first seven minutes of the middle stanza starting with a marker from Greensville native Danny Attridge. The goal, assisted by Jeff McDonough, came at 1:48 of the period. Attridge had three goals and ten assists last year for the Blues.
The go ahead goal was followed up minutes later with goals by Chris Cudek and Jeff McDonough. While the Peach Kings would snap one more goal into the back of the net midway thru the second period, the final 30 minutes of the game was a goal desert with the Blues holding on for victory.
Burlington native and forward Chris Cudek is already looking to have another solid season. Cudek scored 24+ goals in each of his last two years with the club.
Jeff McDonough had a pair of assists on the night while Connor Pilon, Zac Plumb, and Carter Franks each had helpers.
The Blues will head to Port Dover on Sunday afternoon before returning home to Olympic Arena next Thursday to host the Glanbrook Rangers.
