A wild Thanksgiving Monday afternoon matinee in Sarnia that saw the Hamilton Bulldogs drop a 6-5 overtime decision to the Sting.
The Sting were all over the Bulldogs and took a 4-0 lead in the opening period. That included two power-play goals, one coming after Hamilton’s Navrin Mutter was assessed a 5-minute match penalty for a slew-foot. Sarnia out-shot the Bulldogs 17-7 in the opening 20 minutes.
It was a much different story in the second period as the Bulldogs got their offense in gear. Isaac Nurse and Connor Roberts scored thirty-two seconds a part to cut the Sting lead to 4-2. Sarnia got one back short-handed to make it 5-2 before Justin Lemcke (1) scored on the power-play late to make it 5-3 for the home team after two periods. The Bulldogs had the edge on the shot-clock in the second period 21-17.
Hamilton didn’t let up in the 3rd period as Brandon Saigeon scored on the power-play to cut the Sarnia lead to 5-4 with the comeback completed as Isaac Nurse scored his second of the game to make it 5-5 and send the game into overtime.
No miracle ending to this one as Adam Ruzicka slipped one under the arm of Bulldogs goalie Kaden Fulcher at 1:12 of the extra period to make the final score 6-5 Sarnia.
Sting goal scorers were Brady Hinz, Anthony Salinitri, Jordan Kyrou, Sean Josling and Ryan McGregor.
Sarnia out-shot the Bulldogs 46-40.
Hamilton’s season record is now 2-1-1-2 while Sarnia improves to 6-1.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Friday October 13th when they travel to Oshawa to face the Generals at 7:35 pm.
