For the second straight night, the Hamilton Bulldogs dominated the 3rd period, Saturday night pulling out a 4-3 win over the Flint Firebirds at FirstOntario Centre.
The Bulldogs carried the play for the majority of the 1st period, but didn’t have much to show for it until late. Just as a power-play ended, Nicholas Caamano took a pass in the high slot and made no mistake to give the home team a 1-0 lead.
It was all Flint in the 2nd period as they scored twice, including a power-play goal from former Bulldog Riley McCourt as the visitors led 2-1 heading into the 3rd.
Hamilton’s special teams took over in the final period as they outscored the Firebirds 3-1 with a power-play goal from Nick Caamano, a shorthanded goal from Isaac Nurse to tie the game at 3-3, then the game winner from Brandon Saigeon at 19:09 on the power-play to make the final 4-3.
Roberts Thomas recorded an assist and now has 3 assists in his first two games as a Bulldog while Nicolas Mattinen picked up an assist tonight, his first point wearing the Black and Gold.
Hamilton out-shot Flint 32-20.
Firebird’s goal scorers were Riley McCourt, Jalen Smereck and Jacob Collins.
Hamilton’s season record improves to 27-9-3-3.
The Bulldogs now head out on a 4-game road trip starting Wednesday January 17th in Owen Sound with the next home game Saturday January 27th against the Oshawa Generals.
