The Stoney Creek Midget AA Sabres Showcase tournament wrapped up on Sunday and while none of the Hamilton area teams came away with a medal at the event, it was a rousing success. Both arenas were packed with players, coaches, families, as well as scouts who sat in the stands and at the restaurant overlook at the Gateway Ice Centre taking notes during the tournament.
The Ancaster Avalanche finished the weekend with two wins, two losses, and an overtime loss to Philadelphia in their first game of day two. Keira Raitt had two goals for the Avs during the two games. Julia Heslinga, Rachel White-Stephenson, Ava Clark, Kaitlyn McMullin, Cassandra Germana, and Julia Klepp also contributed goals during the tourney. Audrey Foster and Gracie Groulx split time between the pipes for Ancaster.
The Flamborough Falcons squad finished the weekend with a similar 3-2 record, finishing the round robin series with a 2-2 record and winning their final game placement game on Sunday morning. The girls were led by Hannah Abradjian who put in three goals thru the five games played. Kayla Beaudoin and Claire Lester netted two goals each over the weekend while Ainsley Kaszecki, Ella Oster, Jamie Frizell, and Kayla Peddle also netted goals. Emily Clark and Charlotte Leyland split time in goal for the Falcons.
The Hamilton Hawks Midget AA girls squad didn’t have a great tournament, finishing the round robin with a 0-3-1 record and were blanked in their three losses. Hamilton went out on a high note though when they shut out their opponent 3-0 in the final game of the tournament on Sunday afternoon. Hailey MacDougall, Bailey Pinkney, Harper Davis, Natalie Kresina, and Stephanie Spooner each had a goal during the tournament. Tanner Hogan and Tia Card split the series in goal for the Hawks.
Finally the host Stoney Creek Sabres wrapped up the weekend with a 3-2 victory on their final game on Sunday. That was also how the girls ended the tournament with three wins and two losses over the three day event. Alex Ferguson had a pair of goals for the Sabres over the weekend while Brodi Levitt, Tessa Holk, Jenna Duarte, and Lexy Annonech also picked up goals. Reese Andrechuk and Arwen Montgomery had a pair of assists while Keira Allan also picked up a helper. Shannon Harris and Keelee Hollowell took turns in goal for the Sabres.
