Hamilton Cardinals’ general manager Dean Dicenzo announced today the signing of two new players for the 2017 Intercounty Baseball League season.
Tyler Skinner, originally from Amherst, Nova Scotia, recently moved to Ontario and will join the Cardinals for the 2017 IBL campaign.
The five-foot-nine, right hander utility player has spent time with the University of New Brunswick Cougars for two seasons starting in 2013. In 2014, he appeared in 13 games and amassed a .341 batting average. Skinner has also spent time in the Capital City Intermediate Baseball League playing for the Fredericton Expos in 2015 and last season with the Fredericton Shockerz where he had a .312 batting average.
The Cardinals have also signed Justice Magee, a resident of Pickering, Ontario.
The 21-year-old, six-foot-five catcher is currently attending Cuyahoga Community College in Parma, Ohio where he plays for the Tri-Cs. Magee, a sophomore, has appeared in 12 games, collecting five RBIs while batting .300 and putting up a .500 slugging average before this week’s slate of games. The Pine Ridge Secondary School graduate spent his teenage years playing in the Ontario Blue Jays and Team Ontario organizations.
Earlier this week Hamilton re-signed seven players from the 2016 team for the upcoming season.
Hamilton will open the 99th Intercounty Baseball League season on Saturday May 13th when they travel to Guelph to face the Royals at David Hastings Stadium starting at 2:00 PM.
