The Hamilton Cardinals donned their special Father’s Day baby blues and delighted the crowd at Carstar Field at Bernie Arbour Stadium with a win on Sunday afternoon. The victory, a resounding 9-2 romp over the visiting Brantford Red Sox, improved the Cards’ record to 6-4 while dropping the Red Sox’s record to 1-12.
Hamilton got the scoring started early with a six run bottom of the second. Thanks to some solid at bats and combined with a few errors on the part of Brantford’s infield the Cardinals put up more than enough runs to carry them to victory.
Leading 6-0 with the game in the bottom of the fourth inning a sacrifice from Connor Bowie gave the Cardinals another run with Justin Gideon crossing the plate. Brantford would add a pair of runs in the fifth inning but a two-run bomb from Gideon in the bottom of the 8th inning sealed the victory for Hamilton.
Chris Lazar pitched for seven innings giving up seven hits and two earned runs for Hamilton and picked up the win, his third of the season.
Next up the Cardinals will host the London Majors on a special Tuesday night game from Carstar Field at Bernie Arbour Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:30pm ET.
