Cardinals erase early deficit in 5-4 win over Barrie

It was the night of the long ball as the Hamilton Cardinals and Barrie Baycats pounded out three home runs as the Cardinals scored a come from behind 5-4 victory over Barrie in one of two Intercounty Baseball League games played here tonight in Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium..

In other action at Brantford, the Toronto Maple Leafs led the Brantford Red Sox 3-1 in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Pitching was the name of the game for Hamilton tonight as Zackary Gonzalez went seven inning allowing four earned runs on eight hits and a walk. He struck out five of the batters that he faced.  Nick Jambrosic was stellar in relief as he pitched two scoreless innings to earn the save.  Santos Arias took the loss for Barrie as he was touched up for five runs, three of them earned on eight hits and a walk through seven innings.  He recorded five strikeouts.

Barrie scored twice in the second inning and added two more in the third before the Cards began their comeback against the second place Baycats. Hamilton scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning, added a single run on Jake Foden’s 365-foot homer to right field in the fifth. Hamilton picked up its final two runs in the bottom of sixth inning.

On the night, Foden collected three hits including two doubles, the home run and batted in two runs. Connor Bowie added two singles and Laine Reaud added a double.  For the Baycats, Carson Burns had two hits including a two-run home run to left field in the second inning, and Starlin Rodriguez added a two-run homer to left in the third.

Next action at home for the Cardinals is Sunday afternoon in Bernie Arbour Stadium against the London Majors. Game time is 2:00pm. Hamilton will also travel to Burlington on Saturday afternoon at 1:05pm to face the Herd.
