The Hamilton Cardinals started off their 2019 Intercounty Baseball League season on the road and came away with a 7-2 victory.
The game was back and forth through the first half of the games with the two teams trading runs. After trailing 2-1 after three innings, the Hamilton Cardinals broke away and dominated the scoreboard through the rest of the game.
Justin Gideon hit a double in the top of the fifth inning to bring Connor Patterson across the plate to tie the game at two. Patterson himself got on base on a double of his own at the previous at bat. The Cardinals would take a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh inning when Justin Gideon crossed the plate after Luke Tevlin drew a walk with the bases loaded.
Hamilton added another four runs in the top of the eighth inning on their way to victory.
Tanner Guindon, who took over pitching duties in the sixth inning, was credited with the win.
Hamilton will take a trip to the Christie Pitts in Toronto on Sunday afternoon for their game. The Cardinals will host their home opener next Friday night from Carstar Field at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium.
