Croucher’s overtime goal puts Kilty B’s right back in the series

It takes just one goal. One goal to win a pivotal game in overtime. One goal to shift the momentum. With a hugely important moment Luke Crocher found the back of the net in overtime Tuesday night to give the Hamilton Kilty B’s their first win in the playoff series with St. Catharines. The series shifts back to Hamilton after the 4-3 victory with the Kilty B’s trailing the series two games to one.

After the 8-2 blowout the B’s suffered at the hands of the Falcons on Monday night the Hamilton team went into Jack Gatecliff Rink with purpose. This game was must win to prevent returning home later this week with the threat of a sweep.

Hamilton was right in the thick of things from the start of the game. After the Falcons drew first blood with a power play goal just before the midway mark of the first period, Hamilton’s Marc Shannon found the back of the net at 9:11 to tie the game. Then after St Catherines started to pull away through the first half of the second period with a pair of goals from Kyle West and Jacob Roach, a power play goal from Mark Duarte brought the B’s within a goal at 14:55 of the second.

With the ice still freshly cleaned at the start of the third period Anthony Costantini scored his first goal of the playoffs with a huge game tying goal just 36 seconds into the third. The tie game would go into overtime when Ancaster native Luke Croucher netted the game winner and his fourth goal of the playoffs at the 7:00 mark of overtime.

Marco Costantini made 32 saves on 35 shots in goal for the B’s in the victory.

The series now returns to “The Hive” at the Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena on Thursday night. Game time is 7:00pm.
