Double gold for 16U Teal Smash

The Hamilton Smash 16U Teal team recently co-hosted a two day invitational with sister team 16U Purple. Seeded first in the tournament, the 16U Teal girls finished at the top of their pool after defeating four other teams during the pool round on Day 1. Match ups included the Simcoe Extreme (25-10, 25-13), the Waterloo Tigers 15U Black (25-22, 25-7), Dynamo Corinthians (27-25, 25-11), and Milton Edge 16U (25-20, 25-11).

Day two playoffs began with a pre-quarter-final match up against the fiesty KW Predators Invasion 15U who the team ultimately beat after dropping a set in the best of three match. The girls then faced Dynamo Corinthians who they defeated two out of three sets, ultimately taking the match (2-1) as well. This set them up for a semi-final match up against sister team, Hamilton Smash 16U Purple. This semi-final proved to be as exciting as anticipated, with both teams battling hard, resulting in the match going to a fiercely contested third game in the best two out of three series.

Ultimately the 16U Teal girls prevailed (2-1), moving on to the gold medal match against the Barrie Elites Black 15U, who they ultimately defeated in straight sets to win the gold medal.

More recently, the girls travelled to Kitchener for the Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) 16U Bugarski Cup – Championship A tournament. Seeded first once again, the girls did not disappoint. In pool play, they defeated Forest City Blue (25-20, 25-14) and host team 16U Predator Falcons (25-18, 25-15), giving them a bye into the play-off round. During quarter-final action, they faced off with the Dynamo Corinthians, beating them in straight sets (25-13, 25-18). The semi-final match up could not have been any closer with the girls facing the 15U Predators Invasion who battled hard the entire match. The Teal girls ultimately prevailed taking the game in two straight sets (26-24, 26-24).

They moved onto the gold medal game to once again face the 16U Predator Falcons, who rallied especially hard in the second match but the Teal girls emerged victorious beating them 2-0 in the best of three match (25-17, 27-25). The team now looks forward to competing at provincials in April in Waterloo.
