The Dundas Real McCoys threw out the welcome mat for their fans and as President and General Manager Don Robertson proclaimed after the game, “We showed everyone that we’re for real!”
Last Friday after a long two-year absence, the McCoys took to the Market Street ice surface with a lot of enthusiasm; unfortunately, they were edged 3-2 by the Hamilton Steelhawks in Allan Cup Hockey action in the JL Grightmire Arena.
“Everyone was happy to be back home; the response to the building was fabulous from our fans to our executives,” said Robertson.
“What a great crowd, to see a good hockey game. The whole went well, but a win would have been great. We’ll get even better game by game this season.”
“I just wish we could have won one for the fans and our whole group,” Robertson added.
It was a high shot over the shoulder of Dundas goaltender Mike Mole by Josh Ranallli that sealed the deal for the Steelhawks. The McCoys have a record of one win, one loss and one overtime loss.
Dundas is in Hamilton on Friday night (November 8th) to play the Steelhawks in the Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena. They return home to the Grightmire Arena on Friday, November 15th to play the Whitby Dunlops. Both games are at 7:30 p.m.
Last Friday, the McCoys honoured the Dundas Sports Wall of Fame Game Inductees: Steve Aglor, Bob Myers, Nick Genovese, Helmut Classen, and Deborah Lee Eldridge, and paid tribute to long-time statistician Mike Dyer, and former player David Aussem, both of whom recently passed away.
The McCoys got single goals from Cam Watson and LaPointe as Charlie Stephens set up both scoring plays. Dan Brewer and Simon Mangos added an assist each. For the Steelhawks, Paul Zanette and Kris Newbury scored once each while Brandon MacLean, Joe Tolles, Chris Leveille, Bryan Mcgregor and Bryan Cameron added the assists.
