Dundas Real McCoys could not catch a break tonight as they fell 5-2 to the Stoney Creek Generals in one of two Allan Cup Hockey games played in the Harry Howell Arena.
Dundas was looking to gain some ground on the Hamilton Steelhawks as they took on the Generals, but the hockey gods did not look down favourably on the McCoys.
Not only did Dundas lose, but the Steelhawks beat the second place Whitby Dunlops 7-5 in Hamilton’s Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena.
The McCoys have three games remaining in the regular season schedule, one each with Hamilton, Whitby and Stoney Creek. The game with the Generals is a big one for two reasons it is the final regular season game for the McCoys, and it is a fundraising event for Margaret’s Place Hospice on Family Day, Monday, February 18th at 2 p.m. in the Howell Arena.
“The Real McCoys are excited to be involved with Margaret’s Place fundraising efforts to build a new, much-needed Hospice in the Community. It is a privilege to be able to participate in these efforts and we wish to thank St. Josephs Villa, and Margaret and Charles Juravinski for their on-going Community leadership,” said Don Robertson, President and General Manager of the McCoys.
In addition to that match, Dundas will play the Steelhawks on Friday, February 15th in Hamilton at 7:30 p.m. before travelling to Whitby, the following night to play the Dunlops at 6:30 p.m.
Tonight, Stoney Creek was paced by Chris Hulit with a goal and an assist, while single goals went to Tim Kennedy, Nathan Pageau, Cam Fergus, and Nick McParland. Igor Gongalsky and Justin Dacosta assisted on two goals apiece.
For Dundas, Dustin Alcock and Simon Mangos scored once each. Trevor Atkinson set up the two Real McCoys scoring plays.
