Dunlops come back to force game 7 with Steelhawks

In a back and forth series the Whitby Dunlops came back on Saturday evening to force a game seven with the Hamilton Steelhawks.

Theo Peckham broke the ice for the Steelhawks at 7:29 of the opening period to put the black and gold on the scoreboard. The goal was the Owen Sound natives’ first of the playoffs.

Whitby evened the score and took the lead in the second period with two consecutive power play goals. Jason Dale got the Dunlops on the board at 7:27 of the middle stanza with an assist from Brett McConnachie and Kevin George. Dale then gave the Dunnys the lead ten minutes later as Whitby again had the man advantage. Kyle McLaughlin got the helper on the go ahead, and eventual game winning, goal.

Corey Tamblyn tapped in an empty net goal in the final minute of the third period to seal the victory.

With the win the series is now tied 3-3 and the series will go to a winner takes all matchup on Sunday night from Iroquois – Rink #1.

The puck drops at 7:30pm. The winner of the game will take on the Stoney Creek Generals in the Robertson Cup Finals.
