Ellis Rickwood scored a pair of goals Sunday night as the Hamilton Kilty B’s defeated the Welland Canadians 5-1. With the victory the Kilty B’s are 24-14-2-1 on the season and sit in fourth place with 51 points in the Golden Horseshoe Conference.
Hamilton got off to a strong start with a pair of goals in the opening twenty minutes. Ellis Rickwood got things started with his first of the game at 9:42 of the period. That was followed up just seconds before the buzzer sounded to end the first period. With the Kilty B’s down a man, Michael Marchesan got his stick on the puck and lit the lamp at 19:56 of the first period to give Hamilton a 2-0 lead headed into intermissino.
Justin Vermeulen cut the Hamilton lead in half at 6:56 of the second period when he got Welland on the scoreboard but that would be the end of the points for the home team. The Kilty B’s went on to score three more goals through the next thirty minutes to cap off their 24th win of the season 5-1.
Ellis Rickwood, Nolan Underwood, and Jacob Macdonald added goals in the back half of the game. Matteo Drobac stopped 29 of 30 shots in between the pipes for the Kilty B’s.
Hamilton will have a quick turn around as they return home to the Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena on Monday night. The Kilty B’s will host the Niagara Falls Canucks who sit in second place in the conference. Game time is set for 7:00pm.
