End of the road for Steelhawks; Dunlops heading to Allan Cup Hockey Finals

It’s the end of the playoff road for the Hamilton Steelhawks. The Whitby Dunlops took game seven of the semi-final series in a 5-1 final to advance to the Allan Cup Hockey Finals where they’ll face off with the Stoney Creek Generals.

Kyle Musselman got the Dunlops on the board late in the first period at 14:20. The lead wouldn’t last long though as Bryan Cameron netted a power play goal minutes later to even the score for Hamilton. The power play goal was scored at 16:07 of the opening stanza and was assisted by Taylor Carnevale.

Whitby restored their lead midway thru the second period. Chris Porter netted the only goal of the middle frame at 10:54 to give the Dunlops the lead.

The third period was all Whitby on the scoresheet. Just a minute into the third period Whitby’s Kevin George extended the Dunlops’ lead to two goals at 1:08 of the period. Darren Doherty made it a three goal game late in the period at 16:27 and Chris Porter’s short-handed empty net goal in the dying seconds sealed the game and the series for Whitby.

Daniel Svedin made 30 saves on 34 shots in between the pipes for Hamilton.

Hamilton finished the regular season in third place in the league, just three points shy of second place Whitby.
