Fire Alam Doesn’t Stop Mohawk Women’s Hoopsters

The Mohawk women scored their second victory of the weekend, downing the Sault Cougars 57-51 in OCAA basketball Saturday (Jan 19) at the DBARC.

Sam Pocrnic and Alex Parente had 14 points each and Hayley Davis added eight. “We squeezed out another win which was great for our kids,” said Mohawk head coach Kevin Duffy. “It was a crazy day as the fire alarm went off and we had to evacuate the building, but we got the game in finally.

“Again, I was proud of the way the kids persevered at the end of a tight game, trusting each other and coming out with the victory. Hopefully, (we’ll have) a few more on the horizon,”

Mohawk and Sault College were supposed to meet in OCAA Men’s basketball in Hamilton Saturday (Jan. 19) but the game was postponed.

The decision was made to close the college after the women’s game due to the inclement weather, for the safety of all students, staff and community.

No word yet on re-scheduling the game.
