Generals blank the Dunlops in game one of Robertson Cup Finals

Stoney Creek and Whitby were the top two teams in the regular season but the Stoney Creek Generals showed why they were the top team in the league on Thursday night. The Generals came out swinging in game one of the Robertson Cup Finals and blanked the visiting Dunlops 5-0. The series will now shift to Whitby on Saturday night.

Despite being out-shot 40-34 in the game the Generals controlled the scoreboard. Nathan Pageau broke the ice for Stoney Creek at 14:21 of the first period to give the Generals the lead late in the period. The first blood of the series was also the game winning goal of the game.

But that didn’t stop the red hot Generals from finding the back of the net four more times in the game on their way to their fourth consecutive post-season victory.

While there were no goals in the middle frame, Igor Gongalsky, Jarrett Konkle, Joshua Soares, and Rob Hisey all contributed goals in the third period. Stoney Creek Goaltender put up a wall all game and stopped all 40 shots on net.

The Dunlops will look to regroup and the Generals will look to keep rolling when both teams take the ice at Iroquois – #1 on Saturday night at 8:30pm. The series returns to the Gateway Ice Centre in Stoney Creek for game #3 on Sunday night.
