A back and forth affair on Sunday afternoon ended with the Rangers ahead at the final buzzer as Glanbrook defeated the Grimsby Peach Kings 4-3. The victory knots up the playoff series 2-2.
London Murray got the Peach Kings on the board first early in the first period at 5:20, though the goal wouldn’t go unanswered. Midway through the period Glanbrook’s Josh Pace found the back of the net on the power play at 13:25. Jamie Caruso and Connor Maitz picked up assists on the play.
Mathew Rimac gave the Rangers a one goal lead nearly a full period of play later as the Hamilton native lit the lamp with a power play marker at 14:39 of the second period. Dawson Shackelton and Maitz were credited with helpers on the goal. The Peach Kings wouldn’t go into the dressing room with the disadvantage however as Evan Brown netted a power play goal for Grimsby just a few minutes later.
Another power play goal gave Glanbrook the lead once again just 20 seconds into the third period as Rimac netted his second goal of the game. With the Rangers in control and the Peach Kings responded at 4:31 of the final frame as Noah Perlic got the puck past Rangers’ goaltender Warren Lament.
With the game tied 3-3 the Rangers would let the air out of the building with what would be the game winning goal just a minute later. After Grimsby’s Jacob Balca took a slashing penalty, Glanbrook’s Josh Pace netted his second goal of the game thirty seconds later to find the back of the net.
Lament made 20 saves on 23 shots in goal for the Rangers in the win.
The series will now head back to the Glanbrook Arena on Wednesday night at 7:30pm.
