GOJHL: Blackhawks Outlast Warriors

Despite scoring four goals the Stoney Creek Warriors lose to the Thorald Blackhawks 6-4.

Thorald got on the scoreboard first late in the first period when Owen Sobchak put the puck in the net in the final minute of the period. Mike Purcell would give Thorald a two goal lead in the second period before Marc Silvestri put the Warriors on the scoreboard seconds later at 9:38. Kyle Phibbs would add another goal for the Warriors before the end of the period, but not before Thorald added another pair of goals to hold the lead 4-2 heading into the second intermission.

The third period proved to be a back-and-forth affair as the Warriors and Blackhawks traded goals. Myles Falasca scored his eleventh goal of the season on the power play at 7:14 of the third period assisted by Marco Mattina and Tyler VanKleef, who had two assists on the night. Kyle Phibbs also scored unassisted for Stoney Creek at 18:25.

Stoney Creek went 1 for 9 on the power play on the night and threw 29 shots at the Thorald goalie. Both netminders for Stoney Creek played the game with Brock Novak taking the loss.

With the defeat the Warriors drop to 5-12 on the season, two points above last place Fort Erie. Next up the Warriors return home to Valley Park Arena Saturday night at 7:30pm. Stoney Creek hosts the Port Colborne Pirates.
