GOJHL: Pirates Topple Warriors

A flury of four goals in the first ten minutes of the game would prove to be enough for the Pirates as Port Colborne held on to defeat the Stoney Creek Warriors 5-3.

Port Colborne scored a quick goal to start off the game at just 0:44 in the first period, reminiscent of the Warriors’ previous home game against Welland. James Tyminski a power play after the Warriors were given a bench minor for delay of game. The Pirates would score another power play goal five minutes later before Mike Casale gave Stoney Creek a much needed goal on the power play at 7:13 of the first to cut the Pirates’ lead to 2-1.

Zach DeConcilys scored for Port Colborne at 9:24 with Marc Silvestri coming right back for the Warriors. Sivestri put the puck passed Cormier of the Pirates at 19:40 assisted by Luke Nogard and Myles Falasca. Falasca picked up his second assist of the night on the goal.

After the first period the Ric Nattress’ Warriors trailed 3-2.

Marco Mattina tied the game 3-3 at 12:31 of the second period, assisted by Roger Sherwood. Carson Minor put the Pirates back into the lead, in what would turn out to be the game winning goal late in the second period. Zoran Popel added a final goal for Port Colborne in the third period to end the game.

Stoney Creek was 1 for 4 on the power play during the game while going 2 for 4 on the penalty kill. The Warriors were out shot 27-19.

Brock Novak allowed three goals in his first five shots in net. Joe Lepera game in for relief midway through the first period was credited with the loss, allowing two goals on twenty two shots.

The Warriors now have a record of 5-13-0 and are in seventh place, one point above the Buffalo Jr. Sabres.

The team travels to St. Catharines this Friday night to take on the first place Falcons followed by their next home game next Saturday night hosting the second place Niagara Falls Canucks.
