Gonzalez one-hits Toronto in 6-0 shutout

Hamilton Cardinals picked up their ninth win of the season as they shutout the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-0 in the lone Intercounty Baseball League game played tonight in Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium.

The shutout was the second by Cardinal pitchers this season. Hamilton scored twice in the first inning, twice in the second and added two more runs in the eighth inning.

Zackary Gonzalez earned the victory as he gave up one hit, the lone hit of the game by Toronto. He walked two batters while retiring six on strikes. He had relief help from Luke Melymick and Dan Connerty. Toronto veteran hurler, Marek Deska took the loss as he gave up four, two of them earned on eight hits. He had six strikeouts.

Grant Tamane had the only hit for the Leafs, a single in the third inning. For Hamilton, Jake Foden was two for five with a pair of doubles. Jake Chiaravalle, Chris Beer, and Grant Arnold also doubled for the Cardinals.

Hamilton’s next home game is Sunday, July 15tth against the Guelph Royals at 2 p.m. in Bernie Arbour Stadium.
